ADMINISTRATIVE AND REGULATORY

The practice of Oluwole Akanle & Co. in this area encompasses a full range of litigation, counselling, negotiations and rendering of advice in the following areas:

  1. Legislative Policy and Drafting: We have represented government departments and private sector organisations before the National Assembly in respect of advocacy support for or representations on legislative proposals. These include the Pension Reform Act, the Investments and Securities Bill, Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, Trade Union Amendment Bill, etc. We have also consulted for a number of Standing and Ad Hoc Committees of the National Assembly on a number of proposed legislation.

    Our firm is strategically positioned to:
    • advise clients on the economic and political impacts of proposed government’s legislative policy;
    • assist in the preparation of responses to such policy proposals;
    • act as liaison with administrative and regulatory agencies; and
    • assist with the preparation of draft legislation especially those concerning financial, investment, environmental, minerals and transportation.

    We specially skilled in the drafting of legislation particularly those with bias for business, investment and finance.


  2. Environmental Laws and Regulation: We have conducted extensive research into the impact of pollution on the environment, the rights of affected parties, options for redress (litigation, negotiation, arbitration, etc.).

    Specifically our services cover:
    • Public interest litigation and representation
    • Representation at administrative hearings
    • Preparation and evaluation of legal issues relating to environmental impact assessment
    • Representation of corporate bodies before Federal and State Environmental Protection Agencies
    • Design of regulatory and legislative frameworks for environmental management and control.


  3. Transportation and Telecommunications Law: Our practice in this area includes advising, structuring and documentation of transactions relating to aircraft leasing and finance, maritime and aviation related issues including carriage of goods and liability of terminal operators. We have in the past assisted our clients to negotiate, structure and draft three Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) Concession Agreements for the construction of both Airport and Seaport Terminals. A member of our firm was also involved in the early stages of the preparation of the new Civil Aviation Act.

    We have also represented clients before the regulatory bodies for the processing licenses and other governmental approvals.


  4. Government Contracts and Negotiations: The firm is possessed with specialist skills in the negotiation and drafting of contracts involving the government, its agencies and parastatals.
